Turquoise
Turquoise is a copper mineral and more precisely a copper-aluminum phosphate with the chemical formula CuAl6 (PO4) 4 (OH) 8 · 4H2O. The color can vary from light green and turquoise to blue, but the stripe color is always white or blue-like. Turquoise is not named after the color turquoise but after the country of Turkey, through this country the 1st turquoise gems reached Europe. The mineral is known from the Middle East, but it is also widely extracted from Arizona in the US. A lot of turquoise has been treated to strengthen it as it can be very soft. In addition, it is also copied in various methods, for example by gluing small pieces of real turquoise so that it is a larger whole again. The best-known forgery is howlite, which, painted blue, resembles turquoise and is often sold like that. The latter can be picked out because the colors are quite even in one piece and when you break the stone you can see the white inside of the howlite.
