Tsavorite is the chromium-rich variant of the mineral grossulaar. Grossular was originally called cinnamon stone by Abraham Gotlieb Werner 1803. However, in 1808 he decided to change the name to grossular. The name grossulaar is derived from the word grossularia which means gooseberry. The green, chrome-rich variant of grossulaar is called tsavorite. It is a mineral from the garnet group that is regularly processed as a gemstone
