Tiger's Eye
Tiger's eye is a variant of the mineral quartz. Tiger's eye occurs when fibers of black-blue asbestos or crocidolite convert to quartz. So it is no longer asbestos, but it has been. Due to the oxidation of the former crocidolite fibers and infusions of the mineral limonite, a special shine is created in the stone. That special shine is called the chatoyance or cat's eye effect. The blue version of tiger's eye is called falcon's eye and the red version is called cat's eye. Cat's eye is mainly made artificially by heating tiger's eye.
