Keyhole Limpets - Fissurelidae

These primitive snails have two feathery gills. They live on rocks around the low water mark in most parts of the world. Some species have adapted to life in the deep sea. Most species have a natural hole at the top, but some have only a fissure or faint notch, in some cases the mantle is covered by the shell. All fissurelidae are vegetarians that lay their eggs in the water. But no species in the family have an operculum.
