Grandidierite is named after Alfred Grandidier an explorer and naturalist from Paris. He has been to Madagascar 3 times and has also crossed the island 3 times. In collaboration with others he has written a work on Madagascar that covers 40 volumes. The type location of grandidierite is Cape Andrahomana near fort Dauphine Madagascar. The color of Grandidierite is teal, the apart of grandiderite is that the color of the (transparent) pieces changes when you look at it from a different angle. The mineral is very rare and highly valued as a gemstone.
