Petrified Wood

Petrified wood is wood that has been turned to stone under high pressere over millions of years. It has been fossilized, in this process all organic components have been replaced by minerals. These are often quartz or other silicates. Some pieces in Australia are even completely fossilized in precious opal, which has enormous value on the international market. In principle, the quartz where fossilized wood fossilizes is colorless, but the addition of other elements can give it spectacular colors.
