Kambaba jasper
Kambaba jasper or crocodile jasper is the trade name for a particular type of rhyolite from Madagascar. It only comes from an area that is 62 km in size. where exactly has not been established with certainty. The green in the stone comes from quartz mixed with pyroxene (Aegerien), Albite and Kveldspaat. The black round aggerates consist of amphibole needles. At the moment there is still a lot of discussion whether "kambaba jasper" is not a stromatolite. (A stromatolite is a colony of cyanobacteria that are found in various fossil sites.)
