Hypersthene
Hypersthene is the name for a variant of ferrous enstatite, but is also used as a name for a mixture in the enstatite - ferrosilite series. It is a magnesium-iron inosilicate belonging to the orthopyroxenes. The color varies between grey-white, brown-black or dark green, it can also be yellow-white, green-white or brown. However, the stripe color of hyperstone is always gray-greenish or white. Hypersthene is common in mafic igneous rocks but also in meteorites. As a weathering product, it is also often found in sand, for example the Dutch Quaternary river sediments.
