Glycymeridae have taxodonte teeth in the hinge, the shells are heavy, pressed and oval. About 150 species are known, most of which live in the Indo-Pacific region. The glycymeridae prefer sandy bottoms in shallow water. In Europe and Asia, different species serve as a food source.
