Almandine Garnet
Almandine is a generally wine-red garnet variety, but the color can also vary to light green, brown, violet and black. The name was given by Georgicus Argicola in 1846. And the mineral was named after the town of Alabanda which was the gemstone center at the time. Where presumably many almandine grenades were also ground. Almandine is the most common garnet species found in both metamorphic rocks and pegmatites.
