Rutile Quartz
The mineral rutile is a titanium oxide, just like the minerals Anatase and Brookite. However, rutile is the most common of these three titanium oxides. Rutile occurs in both metamorphic and igneous rocks, but usually in smaller amounts. Yet it is an important ore for the element titanium. Collectors and gem cutters mainly know rutile as gold-coloured inclusions in quartz, but rutile can also have other colors. These include red, brown and black and occasionally also violet and yellow or green.
