Pumice
Pumice is a very porous volcanic rock, and thanks to all the holes it can float on water! Pumice is formed when lava contains a large amount of gases and cools within a very short time. As a result, the gas bubbles remain in the stone and cavities are created. Pumice stone contains a lot of Silica and is therefore a felsic rock. The mafic variety of pumice stone is called scoria. Pumice stone has been used as a building material since ancient times and when it is ground it can be processed into concrete.
* Be aware! Pumice only floats when it is not saturated.
