Chromite
Chromite is one of the most important chromium ores. It is an iron chromate with the chemical formula Fe2 + Cr204. The dark brown to black mineral has a metallic luster and it belongs to the spinel group. Chromite has a melting point of 2435 degrees Celsius. The mineral is not radioactive, but it is slightly magnetic, due to the amount of iron it contains. As was probably already clear, the mineral chromite is named after the element chromium.
