Heated Citrine
The quartz variant citrine is often offered in the mineral trade. However, most pieces are not citrine at all, but an amethyst that has turned dark orange due to color heating. However, the color of roasted amethyst can vary from honey yellow to almost brownish red. Natural citrine, however, is lime-yellow in color and often forms in a smoky quartz-like way. Unfortunately the real material is very rare and the prices are very high if you can find it at all. Another characteristic of roasted citrine is that it often has cracks. This makes it more difficult to sharpen and because it splits faster.
