Limonite
The mineral limonite is the non-crystallized form of goethite, an iron-oxygen hydroxide with the chemical formula: FeO(OH)·nH2O. Limonite is therefore never found in crystal form and forms more like a kind of crust. Another name for the mineral limonite is marsh iron ore, this has to do with both the formation and the extraction of the mineral. Although the latter is no longer the case today. Today, limonite is still useful as a coloring agent. Limonite is found in any rock form as long as it contains iron. This piece was found by myself in the Piesberg, Germany and forms a crust on a quartz-rich rock.
