Goethite
Goethite is the crystallized variant of the mineral Limonite. It is also called swamp iron ore because it previously served as an ore mineral. The chemical formula of the mineral is Fe3 + O (OH), making it an oxygenated hydrooxide. The mineral was named in 1906 after Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, an enthusiast at the time a lover of mineralogy. Goethite is formed by the weathering of other iron-containing minerals such as magnetite and pyrite. This piece from Pribram, Czech Republic has a beautifully crystallized brown crust.
