Calcite
Calcite is a calcium carbonate with the chemical formula CaCo3. It is a pseudomorph of vaterite and aragonite. It is also one of the most common minerals in our earth's crust. The mineral belongs to the trigonal crystal system, it has a glass luster, the hardness is 3 by definition. Some pieces of calcite are UV active. The fracture is brittle or shell-shaped, but the split is perfect. The mineral calcite has a very old name. It was given by Gaius Plinus Secondus or Plinus the Elder, in 79, thanks to its resemblance to lime, which means Calx in Latin. Calcite has many forms and synonyms such as dog's tooth calcite, calcite or iceland spar.
