Opalised wood
When wood petrifies, the organic parts of the wood are replaced by minerals. Often these are oxide minerals such as different quartz variants. In a rarer case, the wood is replaced by opal, this is called opalized wood. Black opal is Australia's national gem and is mined in only a few locations. One such location is the world famous Lightningridge in New-South wales. In addition to black opal, opalized fossils are also found such as belemnites, shells and these pieces of opalized wood. The price I charge for pieces of opalized wood is € 1 per carat (a carat is 0.2 grams). For large pieces the price is € 0.50 per carat. And not all documents are on the website, so if you need more documents, it is best to email me.
