Gryphaea's

The name Gryphaea literally means "toenail of the devil" in Dutch, these oysters are also called honeycomb or foam oysters. These oysters have been around since the Triassic and are very common in the fossil record. Even today there are about 10 living species of gryphaeas. These oysters live on hard substrate and the shells themselves are very brittle.
