Fossil plants - Piesberg
In the Carboniferous about 320 million years ago, the Piesberg near Osnabruck in Germany was a large swamp. Where the plant remains slowly accumulated in this way, no oxygen could get between the plant remains. And this is ideal for fossilization, which is why many seed ferns, horsetails and other fossil plants have been preserved in the coal seams.
