Sumatran Amber

The word amber is translated from the German Bernstein where it derives from the word Börnen which literally means to burn. The English name for amber is Amber. Sumatran / Indonesian amber is also called blue amber because. This is because it turns blue under certain UV light, but with normal UV lamps you get the same green color as you would expect with Baltic amber, for example. The material offered here comes from one of the coal mines that can be found on the island of Sumatra. The material dates back to the miocene period abouth 23 MA ago.
