Strombidae
The strombidae family includes several genera that differ greatly in species in the characteristics of the shells. Yet they are closely linked anatomically and biologically. Most shells have a star-shaped notch near the anterior end. All strombidae are herbivores (plant eaters) that can make jumping movements using their operculums. The strombidae are able to do this because these operculums are strong, horny and curved. The eggs are deposited in long gelatinous strands.
